Winter 2023

Forensic Medical Exam Project

HOPE Coalition, The Goodhue County SMART Team and St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) partnered together to host a fundraising event for the new Forensic Medical Exam Project. Every 68 seconds, a rape or sexual assault occurs in the US. Almost 70% of those are 12-34 years old. Sexual assault forensic exams are complicated and require vast knowledge of trauma effects, injury interpretation, evidence collection protocol, treatment options and high levels of compassion. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are specially trained for this. When there is a sexual assault in HOPE’s service area, a victim now has the opportunity for a SANE exam here at HOPE’s office in Red Wing. If you or someone you know may need an exam call 1-800-369-5214 to get connected.

I want to help!

Chamber Awards Dinner

The Red Wing Chamber of Commerce held their Chamber Awards Dinner and cake auction in February. Once again HOPE was voted in the top 5 non-profit category. Thank you to Bob Larson at BoJo’s Creations in Ellsworth for donating a cake on behalf of HOPE. The cake generated a winning bid of $525! It was truly a Barbie and Ken night (lots of PINK!).

February Fundraiser

There was food, music and dancing to The Local Hooligans at the Goodhue County SMART Team/HOPE Coalition fundraiser for the new Forensic Medical Exam Project by nurse examiners from St. Croix Valley SART. Thank you to all the sponsors, auction item donors, and everyone who came out to support this essential program.

From a Child’s Heart

Allison and her mom needed help. HOPE’s Outreach advocate jumped in to get an Order For Protection, safety planning and offered ongoing emotional support during the court process. When anyone is in a crisis, having an advocate makes all the difference in the world.

Love your pet? So do we.

Several times a year HOPE will use AI generated Talking Pets to give prevention insights to parents, kids and our community on HOPE’s Facebook page. Send photos to Linda . Give us your pet’s name and we’ll make them a star. April is Child Abuse Awareness and Sexual Assault Awareness month; our Talking Pets will be giving tips for prevention.
